Upon death, the bowel often expels the last excrement. If I were to imagine an interesting source for this tradition of brown chocolate eggs I would suggest that something similar happened at Jesus crucification, but that the shape of the object that landed at the base of the cross was peculiar... either egg or bunny shaped. This is blasphemy on so many levels.
